Posted 23.07.2010Control Risks to launch Security Managers and Consultants degree conversion course

The Training team are currently working in conjunction with Leeds City College to achieve accreditation for the full Bachelor degree conversion course, with a view to launch early 2011. This will be in addition to the current Security Managers and Consultants Course. 


Posted 07.04.2009New Associate Director for Control Risks Training

After 3 years heading up Control Risks’ training services, Mark James has decided it’s time to go back into the field and taken up a new role as regional manager for Control Risks in Southern Iraq. David Graeme is promoted from his role as operations manager to take over from Mark. David has been Mark’s deputy for the past few years, and brings great experience and enthusiasm to the job. As well as 5 years in the Royal Marines, David has also been operations director for a company sending schools on trekking expeditions, and worked as a director for a UK security company.

David is enthusiastic about the prospects for Control Risks training. ‘I’m delighted to be taking up the reins from Mark with the training school being in such great shape. Despite the financial gloom around the world, we’re getting record numbers onto our courses at the moment. But of far greater importance to me is the reputation we’ve built up for delivering training which is so respected by both course attendees and employers alike. I look forward to building on our reputation for excellence.’

Control Risks Training is delighted to announce the launch of a new security consultants course. The foundation degree level course is designed to arm individuals with the skills and knowledge to operate effectively as a security manager working in hostile environments. The course covers the full spectrum of skills and knowledge required of a security consultant including threat assessment, security audits, travel security and emergency response, and attendees successfully passing will be awarded a level 5 diploma in security consultancy.

Mark James Associate Director for Control Risks Training comments ’We’ve launched this course in response to a number of customer requests. We believe there is not just demand, but a real need for a comprehensive security consultants course which prepares individuals for the realities and challenges of life as a security consultant.’ ’Having an accredited security consultants qualification endorsed by Control Risks on your CV will give attendees a real head start in their career as a security consultant.’

Mark James, Associate Director of Control Risks Training services has recenlty been appointed chairman of the Sector Consultation Group (SCG) for Close Protection with Skills for Security. Mark comments ‘Skills for Security work to improve the professionalism and skills of personnel working in the security industry and it is a great honour to be appointed to such a prestigious role. Through my role I hope to be able to drive a real improvement in industry standards.’

A recent attendee of our close protection course has been appointed to a senior role with one of Control Risks’ major clients. Geoff completed Control Risks’ close protection course in May and following his exceptional performance on the course was recommended to our client. Following a tough interview process, he was successfully selected for the job as head of close protection. In his role, Geoff will head up our client’s entire close protection function in Nigeria, managing a large team of Nigerian nationals and ex-pats.

Control Risks training is delighted to announce that we have been awarded Approved Learner Provider status for our close protection courses. Mark James, Associate Director for Control Risks training comments ‘The Enhanced Learning Credit scheme was put in place to help service leavers to improve their qualifications and future employment prospects. Being part of the scheme means that service leavers can join our close protection course and claim back 80% of the cost as part of their resettlement package.’

Control Risks has appointed a new practice leader for our team providing executive protection services for our corporate clients. Jamie brings to the role considerable experience in the executive protection field. He first met Control Risks as a participant on our close protection and HECPO courses, was then deployed to work on a contract in Iraq for us before heading back to the UK as a trainer on the HECPO course. In his new role Jamie will take overall responsibility for managing the executive protection team and the operational management of Control Risks’ executive protection contracts. Mark James, Associate Director Training Services comments ‘Jamie’s promotion shows the range of career opportunities open to attendees of our courses. At Control Risks we always look at internal applicants before we recruit externally.’

Control Risks has recently decided to open the doors of our training centre to allow those considering a career in security to find out a bit more about what such a career entails and the positions available. On launching the first open day Mark James, Associate Director of Control Risks training services said ‘We believe that people should be able to find out about what a career in the security profession involves before they invest any money in a training course. There are a number of unscrupulous training providers out there who are just interested in taking people’s money. Control Risks’ open days will allow individuals to talk to our trainers, see the courses running and the facilities we have at our training centre first hand before they part with their hard earned cash’.
